I love wallpaper and especially chinoiserie. It has depth, tells a story (without words) and it transports you outside of the space your in immediately. It evokes history, luxury, a sense of enchantment and curiosity. I think what also makes it so special is that each time you look at it you discover something different. It's not that the design changes but rather your curiosity is expanded.
I recently watched a video that explains in more depth the history of chinoiserie. I highly recommend watching it! It's so inspiring and beautiful to watch. The show also highlights Diane Hill whom I discovered on Instagram and have been following for a while now. Diane Hill is based out of London and creates stunning chinoiserie prints, paintings and accessories. She even offers an online course and free tutorials to teach you step by step painting skills to create your own chinoiserie design. I just love that she is creating a more obtainable version of chinoiserie and expanding it beyond wallcovering.
Speaking of expanding beyond just wallcovering you can also incorporate the design into other elements of your home or even a garden party. Click on each image to explore a few of my favorites. Enjoy!

Color Drenching
I am so drawn to this concept of color drenching. It keeps your design palette simple, yet it feels super elevated. Essentially you are balancing the overall backdrop with one hue and by doing so you create a serene environment within your space. The chosen color encompasses everything and the result is a calm, inviting, modern and sophisticated space. It can be a bit intimidating to try but trust me it's WORTH IT! The best way to achieve this look is to paint everything in the room. Typically it works best in a closed off room; i.e. not open concept. All elements including the walls, ceilings, trims, moldings, and built-ins are painted in the same paint color. Be sure to select a color you love since it will be everywhere in the space. If you want to kick it up a notch you can also adjust the sheen slightly. For example, paint the walls in a eggshell finish but paint the doors, trim, and crown in the same color but a semi-gloss finish. This small adjustment works to create a slight distinction between the various elements but they remain harmonious when done in the same colorway.
